REMOURBAN a catalyst for low carbon mobility in Tepebasi
The very same day REMOURBAN partners were holding a project meeting in Brussels, the real work on the ground to transform our cities and reduce emissions continued.
Tepebaşı Mayor Ahmet Ataç led the celebrated delivery of four new electric buses and 22 new hybrid vehicles as part of a major boost for mobility plans for the city and region on 9 March.
Mayor Ataç recognized the role of REMOURBAN and European Commission smart cities policies as a catalyst for the initiative at the event, attended by hundreds of members of the public. Beyond their significant environmental benefits, he also spoke about the commissioning of the electric vehicles and operational experience set to be gained.
As elsewhere for municipalities and the REMORUBAN project, these major steps forward must also make financial sense. In this regard, the mayor also outlined the results of extensive testing against conventional diesel buses. The new electric deliveries are projected to offset their purchase cost in just five years, thanks to an estimated 75 thousand euro saving a year compared to their predecessors.
Look out for more mobility news in Tepebasi in the coming months, as launch plans for 50 new e-bikes and accompanying cycle lanes are also due to be introduced.
